A Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

What an incredible community event our Trunk or Treat was last Friday! It was wonderful to see so many of our Gardner Bullis families come together for an evening of costumes, creativity, laughter, and fun! A huge thank you to our PTA, all the volunteers, and families who helped make this such a special event for our Grizzlies!

This week, our campus has been buzzing with excitement for our musical producation - Annie! At today's assembly, students got a special sneak peek performance from the musical (check out the photo below!). I can assure you, after seeing the amazing sets, costumes, and courageous grizzlies, you'll likely have the song "Tomorrow" stuck in your head for a while. I know I do!

Tonight's performance is sold out, but there are still a limited number of tickets available at the door for both the Saturday and Sunday evening performances. Don't miss the chance to see our talented students shine on stage!

What a wonderful time to be a Grizzly!
Your Proud Principal,
Ellen

A Successful Candy Drive!

A big thank you to all our Gardner Bullis families for your generous candy donations! Thanks to our Grizzly community, approximately 57 pounds of candy will be making their way to Naples, Italy! At today's assembly, 5th grader Cora Evans shared that her cousin, Phillip, is a naval officer stationed in Naples. Our donated candy will be shipped directly to Phillip's ship for the naval officers.

We are sure these special treats will bring smiles and a little taste of home to those serving overseas. Thank you, Grizzlies, for showing your generosity and kindness!

Young Artists, Big Hearts: Kids’ Art Fundraiser

Come see what ten Gardner Bullis students have spent months creating! Join us Sunday, November 15, 12:30–2:30 pm, in the Grand Oak Ballroom at the Los Altos Community Center for a Gardner Gives Back fundraiser benefiting Community Services Agency (CSA).
Meet the young artists, browse prints, stickers, and cards featuring their artwork, and enjoy free treats, drinks, music, and an arts-and-crafts table for little ones. All donations and sales proceeds go directly to CSA to support local people and families in need. Free admission. Drop in anytime and bring the whole family!

LASD Student Art Showcase

We are excited to announce our annual LASD Student Art Showcase.  This is an opportunity for any student from TK-8th grade to express themselves artistically with our community.  Students are encouraged to submit a piece of artwork in the medium and theme of their choice following the guidelines in the advertisement above.  Submissions will be accepted between 10/8 and 11/11, and the LASD Student Art Showcase will be on display at Covington Elementary on November 18th from 5:00-7:00 pm.

This event will be a celebration of student art and local artists, as well as an opportunity to enjoy an evening together as an LASD community.
Registration opens October 8th. Please use this google form to register.  Registration closes on November 11th. Let's go, Grizzlies! I can’t wait to see what you create. Questions?  kdickerson@lasdschools.org

Illuminate LASD: What happens when students lead their own learning and dive deeply into a question that matters to them, and share their voices in powerful ways? Illuminate LASD invites students to become experts, innovators, and change-makers. Whether it’s researching a topic they’re passionate about, solving a problem that inspires them, or creating something to make an impact, students will share the artifacts that highlight the learning process. From TK to 8th grade, Illuminate LASD invites students to share what they now know and can do by sharing the process and products of their learning.

Message From Our Librarian - Mrs. De Rego

We have a phenomenal author visit coming up for our 3rd and 4th graders on Friday, November 13!  We will be hosting the incredible Nathan Hale, author and illustrator of the highly popular Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series!  Mr. Hale will be talking about his newest sequel, The Web of War, a story that takes place during WWII and explores D-Day and the major military battles carried out by the Allied forces on the beaches of France.

The Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series are graphic novel format books covering significant events in American History.  Nathan Hale has been nominated for the Eisner Award (award for creative achievement in American comic books) and has been recognized by the New York Times for best selling graphic novels!

If you would like to purchase an autographed copy of The Web of War or any of Nathan Hale's books from The Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series, please order online using The Linden Tree Order Form.  ALL ORDERS PLACED BY SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8 will be signed by the author and delivered to your student on the day of the event.

Volunteer Reminder: Please Complete All Requirements!

We are grateful for the many parents and community members who give their time to support our students and schools!

  • As we continue implementing our updated volunteer requirements, we have noticed that many volunteers have completed fingerprinting but have not yet submitted the required online Volunteer Form.
  • Fingerprinting is just one step in the process, and volunteers are not fully cleared until all required steps are completed.
  • If you have been fingerprinted, please make sure you have also completed the online Volunteer Form and any additional requirements for your volunteer level.
  • Fingerprinting comes at a significant cost to the District. When volunteers complete fingerprinting but do not finish the process, valuable resources are spent without resulting in an approved volunteer who can support our schools.

Please help us make the most of these resources by completing all volunteer requirements as soon as possible. If you have already completed everything, thank you!
