Dear Families,
Are you hoping to be a driver for a field trip this year? How about being a Lunch Club parent volunteer? Our students absolutely LOVE having parents volunteer at school. Beginning in January, our LASD updated volunteer requirements will go into effect, requiring all field trip drivers, lunch club volunteers and other types of volunteers to complete fingerprinting as part of volunteer clearance.
Tonight's fingerprinting opportunity during Trunk or Treat is a great chance to check an important item off your to-do list. Fingerprinting is available TODAY from 5:00–6:30 PM in our staff room! Please remember to bring a valid photo ID.
This week was such a joyful week with students learning, plus enjoying other fun activities such as the field trips in 3rd to Foothills Park and Kindergarten's field trip to the pumpkin patch! Visits to the library were so fun with our Storybook Pumpkin Patch and our parade was a delight!
Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful Halloween weekend! 🎃 How lucky we have Halloween on a Saturday this year - plus an extra hour on Sunday too since Daylight Savings time ends?
Your Proud Principal,
Ellen

As your children sort through their Halloween treats, consider encouraging them to create a donation pile for our Candy for the Troops collection! We will be collecting candy (no chocolate please) all next week during morning drop-off. This is a wonderful way for our Grizzlies to show kindness and appreciation for service members who may be serving far from their families. We will weigh how many pounds we donate and announce the grand total on Friday's Assembly!

This week PTA treated our staff to delicious breakfast treats including many baked goods, fresh fruit, healthy juices and more! What an awesome way to support and fuel our staff during such an energetic week leading up to Halloween! Thank you!

The PTA Green Team wrapped up Gardner Bullis’s first-ever Halloween Costume Exchange. Thanks to the generosity of our GB community, we redistributed 40 preloved Halloween costumes across the school, giving an estimated 35 lbs of costume materials a second life!
Our costume exchange was a wonderful way to encourage sustainability, reduce waste, and make Halloween a little more accessible for our school community. Way to go Grizzlies!

Congratulations to Ms. Saepharn’s and Ms. Van Ryswyk’s classes for already reaching 100%! A couple of classes are SO close. Help us push every classroom to at least 90% PTA membership participation by Saturday, October 31st!
- $15, no commitment — get involved as much or as little as you like
- One membership per student counts — covers all your kids
- Classes that hit 90% earn extra recess, a special pin, and a Grizzly mascot visit!

We have a phenomenal author visit coming up for our 3rd and 4th graders on Friday, November 13! We will be hosting the incredible Nathan Hale, author and illustrator of the highly popular Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series! Mr. Hale will be talking about his newest sequel, The Web of War, a story that takes place during WWII and explores D-Day and the major military battles carried out by the Allied forces on the beaches of France.
The Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series are graphic novel format books covering significant events in American History. Nathan Hale has been nominated for the Eisner Award (award for creative achievement in American comic books) and has been recognized by the New York Times for best selling graphic novels!
If you would like to purchase an autographed copy of The Web of War or any of Nathan Hale's books from The Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series, please order online using The Linden Tree Order Form. ALL ORDERS PLACED BY SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8 will be signed by the author and delivered to your student on the day of the event.

We are grateful for the many parents and community members who give their time to support our students and schools!
- As we continue implementing our updated volunteer requirements, we have noticed that many volunteers have completed fingerprinting but have not yet submitted the required online Volunteer Form.
- Fingerprinting is just one step in the process, and volunteers are not fully cleared until all required steps are completed.
- If you have been fingerprinted, please make sure you have also completed the online Volunteer Form and any additional requirements for your volunteer level.
- Fingerprinting comes at a significant cost to the District. When volunteers complete fingerprinting but do not finish the process, valuable resources are spent without resulting in an approved volunteer who can support our schools.
Please help us make the most of these resources by completing all volunteer requirements as soon as possible. If you have already completed everything, thank you!

Submissions will be accepted between 10/8 and 11/11, and the LASD Student Art Showcase will be on display at Covington Elementary on November 18th from 5:00-7:00 pm.
This event will be a celebration of student art and local artists, as well as an opportunity to enjoy an evening together as an LASD community.

What happens when students lead their own learning and dive deeply into a question that matters to them, and share their voices in powerful ways? Illuminate LASD invites students to become experts, innovators, and change-makers. Whether it’s researching a topic they’re passionate about, solving a problem that inspires them, or creating something to make an impact, students will share the artifacts that highlight the learning process. From TK to 8th grade, Illuminate LASD invites students to share what they now know and can do by sharing the process and products of their learning on Friday, February 26th from 4:00PM - 7:00PM.
Register today to participate and submit an Intent Form by November 18th by visiting https://tinyurl.com/illuminateLASD. We invite you to share in this experience that connects student curiosity, creativity, and agency!
