Dear Families,
Yesterday, our students and staff participated in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill, practicing the steps we would take in the event of an earthquake. Students reviewed how to Drop, Cover, and Hold On - getting under a desk or table when available to protect their heads and eyes from falling debris.
|
Following the drill, we evacuated to the upper blacktop, our designated assembly area, where we practiced taking attendance and accounted for all students and staff. Our teachers and staff also practiced their emergency response roles, including first aid and search and rescue, and reviewed how we would search the campus and care for anyone who might be injured. These drills help us build confidence and prepare to respond calmly and safely in an emergency.
In the event of a real earthquake or emergency requiring families to pick up students, we will have a reunification process. Below are some helpful reminders!
Reminders for Parents:
- Parents and caregivers must bring their photo ID/driver’s license when picking up students in the event of an emergency.
- Students can only be released to individuals listed in their emergency contacts.
- We encourage parents to update their emergency contacts as necessary to include trusted neighbors or friends who may be able to pick up children if parents are unable to get to school.
- To add someone to your child's emergency contacts, please email Kimberly Fletcher with their name and phone number.
Thank you for helping us keep our Grizzly community safe and prepared!
Warmly,
Ellen
PS I am so looking forward to our Walkathon tomorrow!

A Message from our Student Leadership
Unity Day is officially on Wednesday, October 21st, but in order to accommodate Picture Day, we will recognize Unity Day at Gardner Bullis on Friday, October 23rd! Let’s stand together for kindness, inclusion, and belonging!
To honor Unity Day, we invite all students and staff to wear black next Friday, October 23rd to help the orange POP! 🧡
Orange necklaces will be handed out at the front of the school on Friday before the assembly. Let’s show that when we stand together, we can make our school a place where everyone feels welcome, accepted, and included!

We are thrilled to share that Ms. Italia Rico began her role at Gardner Bullis as our Resource Specialist Program (RSP) teacher this week. Read below to learn more about Ms. Rico.
Hola! I’m Italia Rico, and I’m excited to join the Gardner Bullis community as the Resource Specialist Program (RSP) teacher. My background in anthropology, biology, and global health, together with my Master’s degree in Special Education, has shaped my belief that every learner brings unique experiences and strengths into the classroom. I enjoy creating engaging, inclusive learning experiences that help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, and I look forward to partnering with families and getting to know each of your wonderful children throughout the school year. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, live music, and exploring new ways to make learning engaging and accessible for all learners. It truly takes a village, and I am grateful to be part of yours!

Decorate with acrylic paint, permanent markers and add materials like yarn, buttons, etc. using glue or tape. Flyers with more information can be picked up in the office or library. Participation is completely voluntary.
